Inter Miami 4–1 CF Montréal
Stade Saputo, Montréal • July 5, 2025
CF Montréal stunned the home crowd instantly, with Prince Owusu capitalizing on a missed pass in the 2nd minute to slip a composed finish past Miami’s goalkeeper—setting the tone in shocking fashion. Yet this early setback only fueled Inter Miami’s response, as the visitors gradually reclaimed control.
Despite a resilient showing from Montréal goalkeeper Jonathan Sirois, who pulled off several excellent saves early on, the tide turned. In the 33rd minute, Tadeo Allende drew level with a sharp finish following a brilliant Messi assist from the right flank. Just seven minutes later, Messi struck first—cutting inside from the right and curling low into the far corner to give Miami the lead in the 40th minute.
Late in the first half, Montréal looked unsettled. Then, after halftime, Telasco Segovia punished them with a 60th-minute strike that ricocheted off the underside of the crossbar and into the net to make it 3–1 .
Two minutes later, Messi delivered a masterclass solo goal—dribbling from midfield past several defenders before firing high into the net—capping his brace and sealing the rout 4–1.
Key Takeaways
What began as a nightmare first few minutes for Miami turned into a clinical statement. Lionel Messi, the catalyst, not only salvaged the match but transformed it—through vision, flair, and ruthlessness. Supporting cast like Allende and Segovia rose to the occasion, ensuring a collective uplift. For Miami, this wasn’t merely a win—it was a declaration: even after continental disappointment, this team still has fight, flair, and a world‑class leader.
